1. When can Sortan IS be applied?
Sortan IS can be used as both a pre-emergent herbicide or a early post emergent up to the V3 stage of corn. It is important to keep your corn crop weed free during this period.
2. Do I need a surfactant with Sortan IS?
If sprayed alone, Sortan IS should be tank mixed with a non-ionic surfactant such as Ag Surf or Agral 90 at 0.2% v/v or 0.2L per 100L spray solution. However, optimum control of weeds occurs when Sortan IS tank mixed with 1 full REL of glyphosate. When tank mixed with glyphosate no additional surfactant is required.
3. How long is the extended control?
7-14 days depending on environmental conditions such as soil temperature and moisture. Wild buckwheat, volunteer canola and redroot pigweed benefit from extended control better than other weeds.
4. How important is moisture for Sortan IS?
In order for Sortan IS to be effective it requires rainfall within 3 to 5 days after application. Activation occurs when the top 5 to 10cm of soil is thoroughly moistened following rainfall and the herbicide is readily available to germinating weeks. If moist conditions are not immanent, consider the timing or usage of Sortan IS.
5. How does Sortan IS preform on kochia?
Sortan IS is not registered to control kochia.
6. What can I tank mix Sortan IS with other the glyphosate?
Sortan IS is only registered with glyphosate. All forms of glyphosate (including diammonium, isopropylamine or potassium salt formulations) are approved for use with Sortan IS. It is not, however, recommended to mix different glyphosate formulations in the same tank.
7. Are there any recropping restrictions with Sortan IS?
Barley, soybeans, white beans, red clover, sorghum, sweet corn, field corn, oats, canola, spring and durum wheat, dry bean, chickpea, sunflower, field pea, lentils, flax, fababeans and potatoes can be planted 10 months after application. Winter wheat may be planted 4 months after application.
8. What rate of Sortan IS should I spray with?
For optimal residual control as a pre-seed – use at the 40ac per jug rate (30g/ac)
When spraying in crop between VE and V3 either the 40ac or 80ac (30g/ac or 15g/ac) per jug rate can be used. Please check the label and weed spectrum. And always tank mix with glyphosate.
