Waimara - Masterton

Simon Campbell runs a 520-hectare sheep and beef farm in Mount Bruce, Wairarapa. The farm is a family-owned and operated business, with Simon’s father still residing on the property.

Tordon PastureBoss was applied at 2L/Ha on 5/12/2024. This photo taken in March 2025 shows TPB has killed off 90% of the thistles.

Dense Cali thistles An average of 17 thistle plants per square metre.
Alongside dead stems there are some small autumn shoots appearing. This stage is when GrassMaster (MCPA) should be applied.
6 Weeks After Application The thistles have browned off and more pasture is exposed.
6 Weeks After Application The Cali thistles have died off. An Autumn spray of MCPA GrassMaster will tidy up any stubborn shoots.
Photo taken 19/05/2025. GrassMaster was applied on 1/04/2025 at 2L/ha. This paddock has gone from an average of 17 stems per sqM to less than 4.

Tordon PastureBoss 3 step programme

See the results here after the first two steps of the 3 Step Cali thistle control programme. From an average of 17 thistles stems per square metre, this paddock is now almost ready to enter into the cropping rotation.
